Description:

ADOLF HITLER
(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Very late and historically important typed D.S., 1p. large 4to., "Fuhrer Headquarters", Apr. 9, 1945. Effective April 7th, Hitler orders the transfer of General-Leutnant Gen. WALTHER WENCK, in the leadership staff, to be transferred into the Fuhrer Reserve of the High Command of the Army with a concurrent promotion to General of Panzer Troops. His seniority rank is to be determined in the future. Signed at bottom by Hitler with a very small and shaky signature, co-signed by WERNER BURGDORF (1895-1945), German general and Hitler's Chief Adjutant. Very good. This was a crucial and desperate promotion by Hitler. Here Wenck is made the commander of the Twelfth Army located to the west of Berlin, defending against the advancing American and British forces. Wenck found himself in a pocket with Soviets advancing from the east, after Steiner refused to attack with his meager forces. Hitler called on Wenck two weeks later to break through the Russian lines. This proved impossible and less than a week later, Hitler killed himself. Fine condition, and one of the most important promotions of the war.
