Description:

ADOLF HITLER OVERSIZE MOUNTED BUST
Well-executed cast metal alloy ('spelter' or zinc) bust of Adolf Hitler by sculptor Walter Zschorsch (1888-1965). This massive, heavy bust, very detailed, depicts Hitler calmly regarding the viewer, and is signed by the artist upon Hitler's neck, on the reverse. The bust, 19.5 in. tall and 11 in. wide, has been patinated though a few high areas about the cheeks, tip of the nose, and eyebrows are worn and should be retouched. It should be noted that the used of zinc and spelter was common before the war, and indeed, well into the war years, and bronze patination was an option available to the purchaser. The bust is set upon a 14 in. tall period-made finished oak base which bears a gold-painted national eagle and swastika applied to the front. Overall an excellent piece, and the only Hitler bust we can locate from this artist. Walter Zschorsch (1888-1965) was a sculptor and painter in Leipzig . He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig and was a student and assistant to Max Klinger for four years.
