(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Extraordinary, very early S.P., 8" x 10 1/2" b/w, a brooding, chest, up portrait of the future dictator who stares directly at the camera, his Nazi party pin clearly visible on his lapel, boldly signed and dated at left: "Adolf Hitler Munchen de 28 Marz 1924". Only two days later, Hitler would be transported forty miles to Landsberg Prison, where he would spend the next nine months in relative comfort, practicing his oratorical skills and writing his political manifesto Mein Kampf. Hitler was held in a Munich jail at the time he signed this photograph. One negligible surface crease, light toning at margins and in the area of the signature which perhaps somebody rubbed with an oily finger at some point, a couple on pinholes in left margin, else very good to fine. Hitler photos from this period, especially since while he was imprisoned, are nearly impossible to locate anywhere.
