Description:

ADMIRAL WILLIAM F. HALSEY NAMES ONE OF HIS "GREATEST EXPERIENCES"
A very simple piece that says much about the man, a December 5, 1945 typed 3 x 5 inch note signed by American admiral WILLIAM F. HALSEY to a Boy Scout troop in the States, reading in full: "The signing of the Japanese surrender aboard the USS MISSOURI in Tokyo Bay was one of the greatest experiences of my life." Fine condition. William F. "Bull" Halsey (1882-1959) started the war running hit-and-run raids on Japanese outlying islands and supporting the Tokyo bombing mission of Col. Jimmy Doolittle. He was made Commander, South Pacific Area, and led the Allied forces over the course of the battle for Guadalcanal, and the fighting up the Solomon chain. In 1943 he was made commander of the Third Fleet, the post he held through the rest of the war, and took a major part in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval battle in history. Photo of Halsey for illustrative purposes only and not included.
