Description:

1946 GERMAN PRISONER QUESTIONNAIRE An interesting partly-printed post-war document from Bavaria, 1p. legal folio, Bayern, [1946], a questionnaire from the Commissariat of the State of Bavaria, the governmental body that investigated war crimes and backers of the Nazi regime, answered under oath by one Edith Halke. Filled out in pencil, she answers such questions as "Have you ever been a NSDAP member? No", "Why have you been sentenced? [illegible, in Old German script]", and "To which camp or penitentiary have you been? Women's jail in Berlin". The verso is not filled in, but some of the questions include: "How long were you there?", "What's the name of the guard?", "Was he spiteful of prisoners?", and "Have you to mourn some deaths from the camp or the Gestapo?". Interestingly, Halke lists the profession of her father as a professor, suggesting the question of whether he was considered a radical intellectual. Light wrinkling, overall very good condition. Worthy of further research .
