15TH ILLINOIS VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT MUSTER ROLL
A good content war-date partly-printed D.S., 2pp. folio, Co. K, 15th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Bolivar, Oct. 31, 1862, signed by ADAM NASE (1825-1879), Union brevet brigadier general who fought at the bloody first day at Shiloh, where he was seriously injured in the foot, resulting in an amputation, along with 55 of the men under his command. The remarks read in part: ‘…Ordered to march from Memphis, Tenn, Sept 6th, 1862, to Bolivar Tenn. Distance 80 miles arrived…Ordered to march to the relief of Gen Rosencrans at Corinth Miss marched 26 miles on the 4th & on the 5th. Met the Rebel Army retreating from Corinth. We engaged them on Hatchie River & defeated them & returned to Bolivar Oct 8th 1862…' This was just after the Second Battle of Corinth, which saw a defeat by General Rosecrans, along with the Battle of Hatchie's Bridge, which saw another Union victory, but Rosecrans failed to pursue the enemy. Some splits and text obscured by tape repairs, otherwise very good.
