Description:

‘THE CASE FOR GERMANY'
ARTHUR PILLANS LAURIE (1861-1949) Scottish chemist who pioneered the use of scientific analysis of paintings. An admirer of Hitler as an artist and an ardent proponent of National Socialism, he sometimes anglicized his name to ‘Walter Lohrey'. Laurie wrote many books on painting but is best remembered for his controversial 1939 volume ‘The Case of Germany', which attempts to make a scientific, empirical argument in defense of Nazism. Signed book ‘The Case of Germany' (Berlin: Internationaler Verlag, 1939), hardbound in linen boards, 179pp. 8vo., with a lengthy inscription on the first free endpaper, in full: ‘To my buddy Roy Dagle There may be people who dislike my books and I do not blame them for it, but whoever reads my books and dislikes me – is a knave. For a Free America! Your buddy Walter Lohrey Cologne on Rhine Antwerppenstrasse 48 Germany'. Cover slightly detached, interior pages toned, wear to binding, else very good. Rare.
