Great lot of ten items signed by various crewmen who flew aboard "Bockscar", the B-29 which delivered the atomic bomb to Nagasaki on Aug. 9, 1945. These crewmen were originally assigned to "The Great Artiste" and most flew that aircraft on the Hiroshima mission a few days earlier. Included in this lot is: S.P., 5 x 7 in/ b/w showing the nose art on The Great Artiste, signed by Pilot CHARLES SWEENEY, Pilot CHARLES W. ALBURY, Co-Pilot FRED OLIVI, Flight Engineer JOHN KUHAREK, Asst. Flight Engineer RAY GALLAGHER, and ground crew member AL MOORE; Bombardier KERMIT BEAHAN S.P., 8 x 4 in. b/w, image of Bockscar; Co-pilot FRED OLIVI, two S.P.s, each 8 x 10 in. b/w, Radio Operator ABE SPITZER and Co-Pilot FRED OLIVI, signed first day cover; Navigator JAMES VAN PELT S.P., 5 x 7 in. color, Bockscar nose art; Flight Engineer JOHN D. KUHAREK S.P., 3.5 x 6.5 color, nose art of Bockscar; Weaponeer FRED L. ASHWORTH, signed 1p. 4to. copy of the citation for his Legion of Merit; Asst. Flight Engineer ROY GALLAGHER, S.P. 5 x 7 in. b/w, in flight jacket, with a second S.P., 5 x 7 b/w, shows Ashworth in the cockpit of a torpedo bomber he flew in the Guadalcanal campaign.
