Rare German bright metal plaque, 3 1/4" square, depicting a red cross in enamel, with a caduceus over a white disk containing a mobile swastika at center, and with the initials "D.D.A.C", for "Der Deutsche Automobil Club", a Third Reich-era motorist's assistance organization similar to the modern AAA. The D.D.A.C. provided training and established a series of aid stations to respond to medical emergencies along the newly complete Autobahn highway system. A plaque such as this would have identified a D.D.A.C.-operated ambulance. The reverse of the plaque identifies the maker as Carl Poellath of Schrobenhausen, and each horizontal arm of the plaque features a mounting hole. The plaque shows small scratches overall, else very good.
