A scarce U.S. military award, the Army Occupation of Cuba Medal, awarded to service members who performed garrison occupation duty in the United States Protectorate over Cuba, following the close of the Spanish–American War. The obverse of the 1.25 in. dia., bronze-finished medal depicts the coat of arms of Cuba over a fasces topped with a Phrygian cap flanked by the dates "1898" and "1902", all within a half-wreath, and encircled by the legend: "Army of Occupation Military Government of Cuba". The reverse reverse depicts an American eagle perched upon a trophy of a cannon, rifles, war flags, an Indian shield, quiver of arrows and three spears, a Cuban machete and Sulu kris, all over the words "For Service" and a half-ring of stars, and topped with the legend "United States Army". The edge of the medal is engraved "M[edal] No. 3043". The jump ring is fitted with a silk ribbon in navy blue and red stripes with yellow edges. A ribbon bar in the same colors is also present. In very good condition overall.
