Spanish Mauser Model 1895 carbine, 17 in. barrel, 36.75 in. overall, in 7x57mm. The top of the receiver ring bears the crest of the Spanish arsenal at Oviedo, with the date of manufacture "1897". The left-hand side of the receiver bears the serial number "1720", while the cocking piece is marked "4553", the safety "951", the bolt handle "[uncl.]767", the magazine well "2584", and the magazine base plate "871". No import marks are present. The bolt has been left "in the white", and the remaining metal components are blued, showing about 50% finish on average. The stock has been sanded and refinished, with the butt cartouche burned out. The action functions as intended, and the carbine has been tested for functionality. The bore shows pitting overall, with some noticeable softening to the rifling, more severe at the crown. NRA grade good overall. Estimated accordingly.
