(1825-1864) Confederate brigadier general known for cavalry raids in Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio, killed in action near Greenville, Tenn. Excessively rare war-date manuscript D.S. "Jno. H. Morgan" as brigadier general, 1p. oblong 8vo., "Hd. Qrs. Morgan's Div.", McMinnville, Tn., June 14, 1863 to Major and A.A.G. D. G. Reed, Wheeler's Corps. In part: "...As Col. Gano, a member of the examining board appointed for this relieve the Army of incompetent, disqualified and disabled officers, has been transferred to the Trans-Mississippi Department, I would respectfully respect that another officer be appointed in his stead, and would suggest the name of Major Theo Steele of Gano's Regiment..." Two tones spots in the text, else very good to fine condition.
