(1830-1889) Union major general who received a Medal of Honor for his bravery at Bull Run, and later read the death warrant of those convicted for plotting to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. Good pair of signed items, includes: Partly-printed D.S. as Pennsylvania State Auditor General, 1p. 4to., Harrisburg, May 29, 1860, an order to pay the widow of a veteran of the War of 1812 $60 gratuity and annuity. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original folds, the signature affected by a cancellation punch, else very good. WITH: Partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Harrisburg, Dec. 13, 1866, a payment voucher for a Max Friedman, colonel of the 5th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. Hartranft signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows a punch cancellation, not affecting the signature, else very good. Two pieces.
