(1833-1904) U.S. Navy Admiral who participated in the Civil War and commanded a number of notable ships during and after the conflict, including the ironclad USS CARONDELET, the frigates USS CONSTELLATION and USS CONSTITUTION, and the steam sloop USS HARTFORD. Partly-printed D.S. as lieutenant commander, 1p. folio, [n.p.], Feb. 28, 1863, approving a payment of $54 for fresh meat as provisions for his first command, the Carondelet. He signs at bottom in black ink, adding his rank. Shows original folds, slightly ragged at the right edge, else very good. Under Greer's command, the Carondelet participated in the Vicksburg campaign and the unsuccessful Red River expedition.
