An officer's dress cap worn by a chaplain of the "Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale" ("Voluntary Militia for National Security"), or MSVN, commonly known as the Blackshirts, constructed of grey serge with a wide black and gold brocade band, indicating the rank of captain. The insignia patch at front depicts a fasces bearing a crucifix in silver bullion, all beneath a star and flanked by foliate elements over a roundel of black velvet, and all backed with black wool. The black faux-leather chinstrap is affixed over the black vulcanized fiber visor by a brass button on each side depicting an Italian-style eagle. The interior is fitted with a brown faux-leather sweatband and lined with cream-colored rayon. Shows some soiling inside, with some oxidation to the crucifix and exterior wear, else very good. This cap would have been worn by chaplain's during formal functions, whereas a wide-brimmed, bowl-shaped hat would have been worn in the field.
