A russet-brown leather-covered tubular citation case, 18" x 3" dia., lined with pattern paper and bearing the gilt "SA" symbol of the "Sturmabtilung" on the cap. The base of the tube bears the gilt initials "G K", indicating that it was used to present an award citation to SS-Brigadefuhrer GERRET KORSEMANN (1895-1958) during his earlier service with the S.A. from 1926 to 1937. The S.A. insignia on the cap shows some wear, with additional minor wear and small abrasions overall, else very good. Korsemann transferred to the SS in 1939 and in 1941 was appointed "SS- und Polizefuhrer" ("SS and Police Leader") in the Soviet Union, where he was responsible for the execution of 17,000 Jews in Rovno from 1941-1942 and 12,000 in Kharkov in early 1942. He is also believed to have been involved in the Babi Yar massacre in September of 1941, in which more than 33,000 Jews were murdered.
