Straight-bladed, single-edge short sword, 24” blade, 30” overall, likely a Europe hunting sword of the early nineteenth century. The grip is of fluted brown horn, with a ball-shaped brass pommel and brass crossguard with a block-shaped center and two tapered arms. The center of the guard is stamped with a struck-through numeral “0”. The ricasso of the blade is marked with a crown over a shield containing the initials “S C”, significance unknown. A shallow fuller runs the length of both sides of the blade to within 5 ½" of the tip. The blade is evenly oxidized overall, with some pitting to the extreme tip, and slight signs of sharpening. The crossguard shows some movement, and the brass components show a nice patina, else very good.
