BENITO MUSSOLINI (1883 - 1945) Italian dictator whose fascist supporters marched on Rome, securing him power; allied with Hitler, after many military and political setbacks he was captured and executed at war's end by partisans. MUSSOLINI IS PAID FOR THE BRITISH RIGHTS TO HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY Especially rare partly-printed D.S., a duplicate sight draft bearing his equally rare full signature: "Benito Mussolini" on verso and recto, 8 1/4" x 5 1/4", Rome, Oct. 18, 1928, making a $10,000 payment via Barclays Bank, Rome to a party whose name has been obliterated. The draft is signed by Mussolini as the drafter on recto, and is endorsed by him again on the verso, indicating a rather convoluted payment path. Most interesting is a pencil note on verso: "for the British rights to his autobiography". Intriguing, and the first Mussolini draft we have ever encountered. Pinholes at one corner, punch canceled as being paid.
