(1774 – 1852) French general and nobleman who rose to the rank of Marshal of France and was awarded the title Duke of Ragusa. He commanded a corps at Ulm, corps, then took possession of Dalmatia and occupied the Republic of Ragusa. Fought at Wagram, and was later defeated by Wellington in Spain. In April 1813 Napoleon gave him the command of a corps, which he led at the battles of Lützen, Bautzen and Dresden. He then fought throughout the great defensive campaign of 1814 until the last battle before Paris. A.L.S. as the "Duc de Ragusa", 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], 1826. In French, not translated. A few trivial spots, else very good.
