MOORER (1912–2004), Admiral and naval aviator who served as Chief of Naval Operations from 1967-1970, and as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1970-1974, S.P. adding rank: "Admiral, U.S. Navy Chief of naval Operations", 11" x 14"; WILLIAM D. LEAHY (1875-1959), admiral and Chief of Staff to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman, signature with rank on a card; EUGENE B. FLUCKEY (1913-2007), captain of the submarine USS BARB, later a rear admiral who received the Medal of Honor and four Navy Crosses during his service as a submarine commander in World War II, his memoir: "Thunder Below!" (Urbana: Univ. of Illinois Press), 1992. First edition, 446pp. large 8vo., with dust wrapper. Fluckey pens and signs a wonderful inscription on the half-title page: "...Come alive and take a ride as a shipmate in USS BARB during my war patrols...meet my superb crew. Immerse yourself and feel our pulse..."; and ELMO ZUMWALT (1920–2000), Navy admiral and the youngest person to serve as Chief of Naval Operations, his memoir: "On Watch" (New York: Quadrangle), 1976, 568pp. 8vo., signed on the half-title page. Also included is a JAMES GAVIN T.L.S. "Jim", 1p. 4to., June 17, 1948 to Gen. Leon W. Johnson re: his Command Control system. Five pieces.
