ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. THE FIRST ADOLF HITLER SIGNED CHECK EVER OFFERED AT AUCTION Very rare D.S., a check made out to Hitler with a twist of sorts. The 8" x 3 1/4" check is made out and signed by one "Geisabelle Graber" in London, May 7, 1937, paying Hitler the sum of two pounds to be drawn from her account at Copleys Bank Limited. On the verso, Hitler endorses the check with a fine signature, above signatures of various Reichsbank administrators. Fine condition. This check, endorsed by Hitler, is distinctly different from a bank draft, several of which we offered for sale a few years ago. One interesting item is that the bank is located at "36 & 37 Old Jewry" in London. Old Jewry was the ghetto of medieval London Jews were under the protection of the king. However, by 1264 the king's rights over the Jews was sold, and their persecution commenced in a wholesale manner, with hundreds being murdered, and many more jailed and dispossessed. It is believed that this check, dated two days after the zeppelin "Hindenburg" crashed and burned at Lakehurst, New Jersey, was intended as a contribution to those injured or the families of those killed.
