A fine and rare D.S., 1p. 9.75 x 14 in., Berlin, May 1, 1938, the award of the Grand Cross of the Order of the German Eagle to "The Member of the Fascist Grand Council Mr. Robert Farinacci..." The document, in its original gilt-embossed presentation folder, bears a lithographed signature of ADOLF HITLER, and is hand-signed at bottom by Nazi Foreign Minister JOACHIM VON RIBBENTROP (1893-1946) and by Reichsminister and Minister of the Presidential Chancellery OTTO MEISSNER (1880-1953). The document is in fine condition, the folder bears a cello tape reinforcement at the central vertical fold. ROBERTO FARINACCI (1892–1945) was a leading Italian Fascist politician and important member of the National Fascist Party, as well as one of its most ardent anti-Semitic proponents. Farinacci urged Mussolini to enter Italy into the war as a member of the Axis, and after Mussolini's arrest, he fled to Germany in order to escape arrest. He returned to Italy and was executed at Vimercate by Italian partisans in 1945.
