Very late fine content typed D.S., 1p. 4to., “Fuhrer Headquarters”, Jan. 27, 1945. Hitler makes a series of important technical appointments of senior military commanders. They include HASSO VON MANTEUFFEL (1897-1978) to command 5.Panzerarmee – he would command 3.Panzerarmee in March; FRITZ-HUBERT GRASER (1888-1960) to command 4.Panzerarmee; ALEXANDER LOHR (1885-1947), Luftwaffe general to command Heeresgruppe E, then in Greece. He would be executed for war crimes; GUSTAV-ADOLF VON ZANGEN (1892-1964) to command 15.Armee; CARL HILPERT (1888-1947) to command 16.Armee, later trapped in the Kurland Pocket, captured by the Russians and executed; and EHRENFRIED-OSKAR BOEGE (1889-1965), also captured in the Kurland Pocket, jailed for ten years. The document is co-signed by WILHELM BURGDORF (1895-1945), Hitler's Chief Adjutant who escorted Rommel when the latter was forced to commit suicide, and sat on the tribunal that condemned Hermann Fegelein to death. Present with the document is the rarely-seen blue “List of Officer Applicants” cover folder dated Jan. 27, 1945 and stamped: “hauptburo-Archiv”. Fine.
