(1793 - 1876) American author and literary figure who published the first works of Edgar Allan Poe and John G. Whittier. Poe remarked in 1829 that Neal's were "the very first words of encouragement I remember to have heard". A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo., Portland, Aug. 24, 1870 to a manufacturer regarding a broken pump. Left margin ragged, mounting remnants on verso, otherwise very good.
