(1907 - 1966) Chief designer and architect of the Soviet space program, the genius and inspiration behind Soviet space exploration, his very existence was kept a secret. Typed D.S. 2pp. 4to., [n.p., 1934], not translated but apparently a set of specifications concerning the CK-7 rocket or jet-propelled aircraft project, signed at conclusion on verso. Some marginal tears and chips, else very good. In 1931, Korolev joined the Central Aero and Hydrodynamics Institute, and in 1932 was appointed chief of Jet Propulsion Research Group (GIRD), one of the earliest state-sponsored centers for rocket development in the USSR. In 1933, the group was reorganized into the Jet Propulsion Research Institute, where Korolev led the development of cruise missiles and of a manned rocket-powered glider. (b. 1932) American astronaut who flew on Gemini VIII, Apollo 8, and walked on the moon during the Apollo 15 mission. Superb pre-flight A.L.S. with initialed postscript, 1p. 4to., [n.p., "6-1", ca. 1970], concerning Scott's proposal for the design of the Apollo 15 mission emblem. He writes in part: "Stan: The 'E' to be included in the surface of the design is formed thus: [he adds three sketches of a stylized "E"] Thanx...". He adds in his postscript: "Only need one, of course, you can take an average! D." Very good. Sold with a copy of a letter from noted designer EMILIO PUCCI to Scott, 4pp. 4to., Firenze, Mar. 15, 1971, discussing at length and in detail what would become the mission's emblem, adding two illustrations attached at the conclusion. A rare crew member's letter discussing a mission emblem!

(1857 - 1935) Pioneering Russian scientist and rocket designer who laid out the basic principles of modern space flight. Superb and very rare A.Ms.S. 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], in Russian. Not translated, but bears four engineering diagrams depicting various valves, each annotated by Tsiolkovsky, with additional notes signed at top, as was his custom. Ragged side margins cost a few words of text, some toning, otherwise very good. With letter of authenticity issued by the International Charitable Foundation for Support of Russian Cosmonauts.

Biryuzov, and so on. Boldly signed at conclusion by: YURI GAGARIN, GHERMAN TITOV, ANDRIAN NIKOLAEV, PAVEL POPOVICH, VALERY BIKOVSKY and VALENTINA TERESHKOVA. Very good to fine condition.
