1515. FRANK "HOME RUN" BAKER (1886 - 1963) Baseball Hall of Famer, he
earned his nickname for his 1911 Series homer, and retired with a .307 average.
Rare black and white Hall of Fame plaque card picturing Baker and showing his
states, signed at top "Frank `Home Run' Baker". Very good. $300-500
1516. JOE DIMAGGIO, MICKEY MANTLE AND TED WILLIAMS Exceptional
S.P. 10" x 8" b/w, a later print of a vintage photograph of three of the greatest
batters to play the game, all standing in uniform with bats resting on their
shoulders, boldly signed by JOE DIMAGGIO, MICKEY MANTLE and TED
WILLIAMS. Fine condition, ideal for display. $300-500
1517. JOSEPH E. CRONIN (1906 - 1984) Baseball Hall of Famer, a shortstop
who hit over .300 for ten seasons and later coached the Red Sox. Partly-printed
D.S. "Joseph E. Cronin" as Red Sox coach, 1p. 4to., Boston, June 9, 1952,
a contract between Cronin and the Boston American League Baseball Co. "...in
consideration of the outright assignment of the contract Player Archie C. Wilson...".

1518. JOE DIMAGGIO (1914 - 1999) Baseball Hall of Famer, "Joltin'
Joe" hit safely in 56 consecutive games. Exquisite S.P., a 20" x 17" color limited
edition impression (#1026/1500) of artist Harvey Dinnerstein's painting of DiMaggio
swinging away in his prime, signed in full in pencil by DiMaggio in the white
bottom margin. Matted and framed, fine condition. $300-400

pitcher for the Cubs named all-time Cubs righthander in 1969. D.S. "Chas.

drawn on the Hollister National Bank making a $66.84 payment to Schipper's.

1521. BOBBY THOMSON American baseball player and Hall of Famer, a New
York Giant, his dramatic "shot heard `round the world" on October 3, 1951, a
three-run, ninth-inning homer off Brooklyn pitcher Ralph Branca, capped the
Giants' historic comeback to win the NL pennant. Excellent official William
White National League baseball signed on the sweet spot: "Bobby Thomson `The
Shot Heard Round the World' Oct. 3, 1951". Fine. $100-150
1522. JOE "SMOKEY JOE" WOOD (1889 - 1985) American baseball player,
a great pitcher whose brief career bore 166 wins and a .671 average. D.S. "Joe
Wood" 1p. oblong 12mo., New Haven, June 11, 1971, a personal check drawn
on the First New Haven National Bank making a payment of $7.95 to Del Valley

1523. BASEBALL TINTYPE Early baseball tintype photograph, 3 1/2" x 2
1/2 showing nine uniformed players with initials "F.H.S." on their shirts, four
seated with five standing, a bat and gloves laid before them. Three others are
in the image, likely coaches or trainers. Image a bit dark but otherwise clean
and attractive. $300-400

1526. BASEBALL GREATS A neat lot of nine S.P.'s by vintage and contemporary
baseball greats, including Negro League, each in 8" x 10" color or b/w format,
and nicely framed. Signatories include: BUCK LEONARD, WILLIE MAYS,
STAN MUSIAL, GAYLORD PERRY, JOE SEWELL, DUKE SNIDER,
SANDY KOUFAX, EDDIE MATHEWS, and CLYDE SUKEFORTH. Each

1527. BASEBALL GREATS A nice lot of three S.P., includes: BOBBY THOMSON
(10" x 8" b/w, showing Thomson making his 3-run, pennant-winning homer for the
Giants, Oct. 3, 1951); WILLIE MAYS (8" x 10" color, a great shot in uniform),
and WILL CLARK (8" x 10" color, showing him at bat). Each boldly signed
in felt tip, and each handsomely set on a dark wood plaque with headings on
brass plates beneath the photo. Three piece, fine condition. $75-100
1528. HAROLD "RED" GRANGE (1903 - 1993) American football star, "The
Galloping Ghost" played with the Chicago Bears for ten years and was inducted
into the Football Hall of Fame. Excellent signed limited edition (#138/1000)
lithograph, 20" x 17" color, artist Bob Peak's watercolor showing Grange in
his prime as he charges through the line, boldly signed in pencil in the white
bottom margin. Matted and framed, with a photo of Grange signing these lithos.

Bay Packers who led the team to five N.F.L. championships and the first two

1536. MOHAMMED ALI AND LEON SPINKS Fine S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, a nice shot
of a well-used suspended heavy back, boldly signed by Ali and by LEON SPINKS,
one of the few to beat Ali, in a 15-round decision in 1978. Fine. $50-75
1537. JACK DEMPSEY (1895 - 1983) "Manassa Mauler", American boxing heavyweight
champion and one of the greatest of all time. Vintage S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, a seated
chest, up shot showing the boxer in a suit ca. 1964, boldly signed at top left:
"Good luck Jack Dempsey". Handsomely set in acrylic on a marbleized plaque
with a biographical notation. In very good condition, unexamined out of frame.

1538. JACK DEMPSEY AND GENE TUNNEY Exquisite S.P., a 20" x 17" color
limited edition impression (#846/1500) of artist Gustav Rehburger's famous painting
of Dempsey and Tunney slugging away for the championship on September 22, 1927,
signed in full in pencil by both Dempsey and Tunney in the white bottom margin.
Matted and framed, fine condition. $300-400
1539. MICHAEL DONOVAN (1847 - 1918) American boxer and boxing instructor,
fought Sullivan, Dempsey, and even sparred with Theodore Roosevelt. Donovan's
greatest contribution was in teaching the "science" of boxing, versus the brawling
style of the early bare-knuckled fighters. Rare, fine content A.L.S. "Mike
Donovan" 1p. 8vo., Brooklyn, July 11 [n.y.], to Mr. Dobson, in part: "...John
A. Fallon the Amateur Heavy Weight Boxer & Patsy Brennan had a scientific
glove contest. Fallon won easy by a dozen points in less than nine minutes..."

1540. IKE WILLIAMS (1923 - 1994) American lightweight boxing champ.
I.S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, a great shot showing Williams in his championship belt
jabbing for the camera. Boldly inscribed at top right: "To my good friend
Joe Balmer, always good luck Sincerely `Ike' Williams 4/9/79". Handsomely
set in an acrylic frame against a marbleize plaque. Very good. $50-75
1541. GENE TUNNEY (1898 - 1978) American boxer who defeated Jack Dempsey
twice for the heavyweight championship. T.L.S. "Gene" on American Distilling
Company letterhead, 1p. 4to., New York, Oct. 19, 1940, to his longtime friend
Robert Gros, in part: "...I am delighted to know that you found the rugged
life of Wyoming to your liking and also that the Utah Junior Chamber of Commerce
were favorably impressed by your reference to me. I liked Utah and the Mormon
people. On the whole, they seem honest and forthright...". Boldly signed

1542. GENE TUNNEY T.L.S. "Gene" on his corporate letterhead,
2pp. 4to., Stamford, Sep. 22, 1947, in part: "...Today is the twentieth anniversary
of the Dempsey-Tunney fight in Chicago...I intend going into New York today

Nicklaus in his prime as he drives, boldly signed in pencil in the white bottom
margin. Matted and framed, with a photo of Nicklaus signing these lithos. Fine.
