WILLIAM TENNANT (1890 – 1963) British naval officer ordered to organize the men on the Dunkirk beaches and get them onto the ships waiting to evacuate them. Tennant stayed right up until the last ships left on 2 June, patrolling the beaches of Dunkirk with a megaphone searching for British troops. He later served as captain of the HMS Repulse and was aboard when she was sunk by the Japanese with HMS Prince of Wales on 10 December 1941. He later aided in the setup of the Mulberry harbors and the Pluto pipelines, a crucial part of the success of Operation Overlord. Rare signature: "Yours faithfully, William Tennant" on an 8 1/2" x 5" sheet, dated 1947. Folds, else very good.
