Rare signed book: "Operation Lifeline" by James Lee (Chicago: Ziff Davis Publishing Co.), 1947. 172pp. 4to., blue cloth with gilt emblem of the Naval Air Transport Service. A history of the Naval Air Transports Service, heavily-illustrated with photographs by Army photographer JOE ROSENTHAL of Mount Suribachi flag-raising fame. Special limited edition, this being copy no. 36/1,000 with the dedication page signed by JAMES FORRESTAL (1892–1949), Secretary of the Navy and first Secretary of Defense; Admiral CHESTER W. NIMITZ (1885-1966), Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet; Admiral ARTHUR W. RADFORD (1896-1967), headed a task group attacking Japanese at Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Tarawa; and Admiral JOHN W. REEVES, JR. (1888–1967), Commander of the Alaskan Sector who led the effort to dislodge Japanese forces from the Aleutians, later commanded a task group including Enterprise, Lexington, San Jacinto, and Princeton in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Covers bumped, else fine. A rare combination signatures of top American admirals of World War II.
